“Indomitable will and a burning passion was all she had when she decided to begin her yoga journey few years back”.

Born into a conservative Punjabi family, she grew up in a beautiful isolated holy town Uttarkashi (right in the lap of Himalayas). Her mother is a perfect example of being a Bhakti yoga follower and hence, bhakti came to her from the very beginning and she literally grew up following rituals and ceremonies without even knowing the meaning behind it. After many years, she realized that she was only becoming God fearing. We all have heard that God resides in our heart but did she really follow? Straight answer is No!

When she moved to New Delhi to finish her studies, her family shifted to Rishikesh (Yoga capital of the world). After completing masters, life took her to the hustle-bustle of a corporate world. Her ambitious nature gave her immense success but this was not enough and happiness never touched her soul. So she misunderstood her hobby (Dancing) to be her passion and went ahead and became a choreographer and performer in the Bolly wood industry. This is when yoga became a part of her daily practice. Glitz and glamour of Bolly wood never touched her soul either and it was an abrupt decision to bid good-bye to that phase as well.

There came a time in her life that brought a lot of agony however in retrospect it changed everything for her forever. Her mental health needed some attention; however, multiple visits to a counselor and heavy dose of medication did no good to her. This is when she took her yoga practice to next level and her mother introduced her to a living spiritual master in Rishikesh for which she is forever grateful to her. He is a Himalayan yogi who did his penance up in the Himalayas (Gaumukh) for many years, wrapped around in just one piece of saffron silk irrespective of the ice-cold temperature and his being is very difficult to express in words here. He is a divine manifestation himself. She did not know the meaning of Guru but started visiting his ashram with her mother as and when she was in Rishikesh. His one line teaching pierced her soul and it kind of opened up a different horizon in her brain which is usually lying dormant in many of us.

It is said that “when a disciple is ready, the guru appears”. This is exactly what happened. Without listening to the mind’s if’s and buts, she went ahead and expressed her desire to be his disciple. People around her were indifferent and assumed that getting initiated at such an early stage by such an enlightened master is next to impossible.  To everybody’s surprise, she got initiated by him and became his disciple and this is when her practice which was only restricted to asana took a leap. His teachings gave her a direction in life and that’s when she took up Yoga professionally.

After completing her 200 HR TTC from Rishikesh, she started travelling to various places and started teaching Asana, Pranayama and meditation while she continued to learn from various renowned yoga instructors of the country. Time and again she went back to her master to know more about the subject and every time she only came out with immense awareness about her true being.

She travelled to various religious places, few ancient caves and continued her sadhna taught by her master. After realizing that how the magic of her mat space cured her depression, she made it a point to touch people’s lives in whichever way she could through her teachings and classes. Since then she has travelled the globe and delivered beautiful workshops in TTC’s, regular classes on various styles of asana practice and Pranayama & Meditation at different studios.

Later she also completed her Reiki (level 2) certification from Rishikesh due to her unshakable faith in energies. Her burning desire to know about Yoga took her to a Vipasana retreat and that is when she had an opportunity to experience her prana. Her Gurudev says that one life is not enough to know about a particular scripture due to the in-depth knowledge every scripture carries and hence being content and centered with what you know is when knowledge will grow in abundance. She lives by this teaching and quietly observes her inner experiences which she goes through while doing sadhnas and as and when she has an opportunity to share it with her students; she puts her whole heart and soul into it.

Her true calling is to heal people suffering from mental health, to motivate and transform lives of hundreds and spread the Yoga love wherever she goes and with whomsoever she gets in touch with. The more she writes about Yoga and how it changed her life, the less it is. Hence, she is always travelling and teaching her experiences only after getting it validated from her master!

For years, question on celibacy bothered her and just when she left the question to the universe to be answered when the answer is ready, she found it and hence she says:

“Yoga is not a state of celibacy or posing in various ways, it is a pause between every inhalation and exhalation. It is the seeking attitude without asking the books and the stars, but listening to the teachings of one’s soul”

Om, shanti, shanti, shanti!
